This course is designed to provide a high-level overview of automotive steering and suspension technology as it exists today and some insight into where it is going in the future. It is intended to provide advancing technicians with some knowledge of the essentials of steering and suspension design, as well as some of the diagnostic skills needed to address the future. More seasoned technicians will find it a good review along with some exciting insight into the diagnostic and repair challenges. TOPICS INCLUDE: Advanced Power Steering Systems (Variable-effort power steering, Electric power steering). Adaptive Suspension Systems (MR fluid dampers / magna-ride, solenoid-based adaptive ride controls, air suspension, and fully active suspension systems). Electronic chassis and steering system sensor diagnosis and resets (SAS, YAW, etc.). ADAS (Automated Driver Assist Systems) effects on steering & suspension technology.


The Instructor: David Cochrane

Cochrane has more than 29 years of experience as a technician and instructor. He holds multiple certifications and currently is a professor of automotive technology at Niagara College Canada, as well as in-field automotive service technician and shop foreman for a major automotive service repair corporation.
